The Koshary was fantastic! The fried eggplant was so flavorful and fresh! They had many other options in terms of platters and sandwiches that looked fantastic as well that we will need to try next time. The staff was very friendly as well.
The best place for kebab, baba ghanoush, tabbouli, shawarma, and red lentil soup, is closing tomorrow Dec 25, 2022. They might reopen depending on discovery of the right location.
Good for the price! The Falafels were crispy, and the Chicken Shawarma was seasoned well. Lentil soup was thicker than I expected, but it was flavorful. Quick and easy choice!
So good. The portion is large and beef kafta was amazing. The hot sauce they give you, is SPICY. My mouth was on fire, so use sparingly. The side salad isn't super special, but still good. I would've liked some more feta. The meals though are tasty, and the service is quick!
Solid middle Eastern establishment. While we did not dine in, we ordered delivered and the portion sizes were large and plentiful. Had leftovers for sure which was perfect to heat up next day. They do give a lot of rice which is a bit too much in my opinion. I'd rather have more meat, but the taste and quality of everything was fresh and delicious. We also ordered one of the signature/special dishes and liked it a lot. I'd 100% order from this place again and happy it's not too far from my place!
Good bang for your buck here. Lots of food, you really get two meals out of it (at least for me, I'd say I'm a medium eater in terms of volume). Friendly staff too, they smiled when I picked up which is always refreshing. I had the chicken shawarma which I enjoyed, the garlic sauce is really good, I think next time I'll have to get extra of that sauce because one to go container isn't enough. Parking on Fullerton can get busy on weekends. I did pick up so I temporarily found a spot. The inside is spacious but a little old but that's fine, it's not really a date spot.
My friend is Egyptian and this is one of her favorite Egyptian spots to go to! I had never been to Chicago so I was just overall interested in the experience. I love that this restaurant is cute and quaint in the middle of a neighborhood. Anyways, we ordered a couple of appetizers and I completely forgot to get pictures! We ordered dolmas, babaganoush, and hummus! I LOVED the hummus and pita bread! It was super tasty and perfectly creamy. I've never really been a huge fan of babaganoush, but this was one of my least favorites. The smokiness of it was too much for me to handle. The dolmas were tasty as well, I'd definitely come back for those! For my entree, I ordered beef and rice. Again, everything I expected and totally worth it!
I came here to grab a sandwich to go for lunch. There's plenty of indoor dining space here, and a handful of tables for outdoor dining on the sidewalk. Parking is limited street parking on a pretty busy road. Their beef and lamb shawerma sandwich ($7.50 pretax) was nicely toasted in a pita wrap. It was still warm when I got around to eating it. It is a bit messy to eat with the juices dripping down the bottom of the wrap. I didn't pick up as much of the lamb flavor as I would have liked. There's a good ratio of meat to the rest of the filling (lettuce, tomato, pickles and hummus). I really enjoyed the chili sauce they included on the side- it's not too spicy and really kicks the flavor profile up a notch.
Eating here feels like eating in someone's home. And I mean that in the best way possible - it's not overly bright and the staff is really friendly. It feels like a friendly grandma went out to the local market this morning to hand pick all the ingredients and made everything from scratch just for us. The dishes are simple - they may not be simple to make but they just taste so fresh and pure. Now to review the food... - lentil soup: not too salty, just right (usually they're too salty) - hummus: awesome - pita: fluffy - grape leaves: unexpectedly warm but still good - falafel: solid - lamb and beef entree (with rice): huge! Small strips of lamb and beef. Again, not too salty thankfully so this is where their chili sauce comes in (you'll need to ask for it) +1 for the hieroglyphic scrolls on the table (I realize that's random) and the Arabic TV station.
Chair o Kebab is located on Fullerton just East of Ashland where Salam use to be about 5 years ago. I use to go to Salem because it's right across the street from Lifesource where I donated platelets every other Sunday. Salam also has a restaurant on Kedzie Ave, but closed this location, but I digress I went to Cairo Kabob w/my sister & niece. Basically it's the same set up as before. You enter off of Fullerton Ave into a small dining area at street level. As you go back into the restaurant the food prep/kitchen & a larger dining area. We ordered hummus which was very good, (but not as good as Larsa's). We weren't real hungry so both my niece and I ordered shawarma sandwiches which were pretty tasty. My sister ordered something I had never seen at a Mediteranean restaurant. It was a strange concoction that looked delicious. There was a rice based dish w/ground beef, macaroni & fried onion strands on top. I hate to say it, but all 3 of us weren't impressed w/whatever it was. We also had lentil soup which was pretty good and a very small side salad w/lettuce, tomato & feta cheese mehhh (nothing happened to write home about) The staff was awesome, very friendly and helpful, the food was pretty good in a nice restaurant. I live Mediteranean food and am always up to try a different place
